A set of detail parts for building a miniature of the four-cylinder BMW N46 engine in 1:24 scale. The version is marked as Yamamoto Spec and it is the naturally aspirated one, that is an engine without forced induction; the turbocharged variant is a separate item. It is not a car kit: the package holds the power unit and its accessories, meant to be installed in a model of a car that the builder obtains separately.
The N46 series is a water-cooled four-cylinder gasoline engine from BMW that appeared in the range in the middle of the 2000s and was fitted to the lower and middle model ranges. It is a naturally aspirated unit with a twin-camshaft valvetrain, popular in the modifying scene precisely because it takes further work. The Yamamoto Spec marking refers to the version as the maker of the set renders it, not to a production version of the engine.
First wash the small castings in lukewarm water with dish soap and cut the casting blocks off with a sharp modeling scalpel, never break them off. Assemble and paint the engine outside the model, as on an open table you can reach it from every side; only then seat it in the engine bay. Set the block, the head, the sheet metal covers and the timing covers apart by shade and by degree of gloss, or the whole will merge together. Make the wiring and the hoses yourself from wire and flexible tubing of a matching diameter, as the set usually does not include them. Before gluing it into the body, dry-fit it to check that the engine goes in under the hood and that it does not clash with the walls of the engine bay.
