This sheet of wet transfers in 1:48 scale imitates pine wood (pine tree) in a yellowish tone. It serves to render wooden areas credibly — plywood covering, interiors, propellers or floors — without laboriously painting the wood grain by hand. It is not a model but wood decor.
The airframes and the interiors of First World War aircraft were largely wooden; the shade and the grain of the wood differed with the kind of material as well as with the age of the varnish. Different tones (natural, yellowish, red, faded) make it possible to match the decor to a particular machine.
They are wet transfers: the sheets are applied like ordinary decals onto a smooth base that is already painted and preferably overcoated to a gloss. The transfers are translucent, so the shade of the base helps determine the final tone — a lighter ground gives a lighter result. Once dry the carrier film practically disappears and only the print itself stays on the surface. A decal softener is recommended, as is overcoating the finished area.
The decals are supplied as sheets of wet transfers; paints, varnish and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
