The most extensive of the packages of this series from the Czech maker Hauler, put together for one particular kit of the Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf.J medium tank in 1:48 scale. The model is not in the package; these are aftermarket accessories for a kit you have already bought. The aim is to replace plastic parts where on the real machine there should be thin sheet, and to add the small things that get simplified by pressing into plastic. Check the contents right after unwrapping and plan the build by them.
The Ausf.J was the last production version of the German Pz.Kpfw. IV medium tank. It carried a long-barreled 7.5 cm gun and, against the earlier versions, was simplified in production: the auxiliary unit driving the traverse of the turret was dropped, which from then on was worked by hand, and the space freed up served for more fuel, which raised the range. Late pieces had a reduced number of return rollers, and in place of solid sheet-metal Schürzen (side armor skirts) lighter mesh panels appeared on them. It is precisely the side skirts that are the most conspicuous element on a model, because they are large thin areas that plastic can never manage at the true thickness.
Bend the side skirts and the other long photo-etched parts in a bender or between two rulers, and watch that all the bends have the same radius, or a row of panels side by side will look restless. It pays to make one trial on waste from the fret and only then to work with the real part. The model will benefit if you leave some of the panels slightly bowed or missing altogether, because thin sheet bent and fell off in service; irregularity looks more credible than a perfect row. Fit the hanging rails before the panels themselves and let them dry properly. Before painting, unify the whole model with a primer, and reckon with the fact that the edges of the skirts will be apparent once sprayed, so clean them up beforehand. The accessory is designed for the Tamiya kit.
This is a set of accessories, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
