This is the D version of the light single-engine SF-260 aircraft, and this box is focused in theme on machines flying in the United States. The model is a typical representative of a smaller scale, where the whole aircraft is built quickly and fits even into a modest display case.
The SF-260 is an all-metal single-engine low-wing aircraft of Italian origin, designed by Stelio Frati and built by SIAI-Marchetti. It combines small dimensions, clean aerodynamics and a powerful six-cylinder piston engine, which gives it very brisk flying qualities for a light aircraft and lets it take aerobatic use as well. The pilots' seats are side by side, the machine has dual controls and it is therefore popular as an advanced trainer type. The SF-260 range went through many stages of development and spread to civilian as well as military operators all over the world; the D version is one of the later links in this family.
With a small single-engine aircraft it pays to start with the cockpit, because once the fuselage is cemented together you cannot reach it. Mask the glazing before spraying, ideally with thin masking tape or a ready-made mask. Spray the surface under the decals with gloss clear, and once the decals have dried, go over it with a flat or semi-gloss coat depending on the look you want. Leave the propeller and the landing gear until the end, so that the model is easy to hold while painting. Short-run molds sometimes call for careful fine-tuning of the mating surfaces, so expect light sanding and a dry trial assembly.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
