The manufacturer offers this gun in several versions that differ precisely in how the barrel is cooled — this one has a full jacket around the barrel and corresponds to the standard rather than the lightened aircraft version.
The Schwarzlose Model 07/12 is an Austro-Hungarian 8 mm heavy machine gun. It works on delayed blowback with a toggle-lever mechanism, a design simpler than the barrel recoil used by comparable guns. The barrel is fairly short and in this version a cylindrical water jacket surrounds it and carries the heat away during longer bursts. The gun is belt-fed and was mounted on pedestals and carriages. The description keeps to the technical frame of the design.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water so that no mold release agent is left on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a fresh blade and sand the remains wet and with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). The smooth cylindrical jacket is a rewarding surface to paint: lay down a thin primer, then a dark metal shade, and bring out the edges and the riveting with a fine dry brush. A dark wash will run into the gaps between the jacket and the body of the gun and give it visual depth.
This is a modeling accessory, not a complete kit. The parts are supplied unpainted; glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
