The injection-molded kit of the Hawker Tempest Mk.V series 2 in 1:48 scale from Eduard depicts the British fighter of the end of the Second World War on modern tooling.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, depicting the later production run (series 2) of the British Tempest Mk.V fighter. The modern tooling is marked out by fine engraving – flush rivets and details – and by crystal-clear parts for the canopy. The particular edition and the exact contents of the package are identified by the manufacturer's kit number.
The Hawker Tempest was created as a markedly improved successor to the Hawker Typhoon; it was given a thinner wing with a laminar-flow section, which removed the loss of performance at higher altitudes. The Mk.V version was powered by the Napier Sabre engine with its cylinders arranged in an H, of about 2180 hp and with the characteristic chin radiator, and the armament consisted of four 20 mm Hispano cannon. After it entered action in 1944 the Tempest excelled as a low-altitude interceptor – among other things in destroying V-1 missiles – and in direct combat with contemporary German fighters. At low altitude it was among the fastest piston fighters of the war.
Glue the parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic and paint the cockpit before closing the fuselage. Apply a primer before spraying; the British camouflage of Dark Green and Ocean Grey with Medium Sea Grey undersides shows to best advantage with an airbrush. Glue any photo-etched parts (depending on the edition) with cyanoacrylate glue and protect the clear canopy with masks. Pick out the fine flush riveting with a light wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
