1:48 Torpedo Mk.46, a pair is a resin accessory from Metallic Details. It is not a kit of an aircraft but a set of stores for making a finished model more accurate.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set offers a pair of light Mk.46 anti-submarine torpedoes in 1:48 scale. It is a stores accessory, not a model of an aircraft: the torpedoes are hung under a pylon or in the bomb bay of a machine that has already been built, or they are laid on a support cart or a pallet in a diorama scene. Resin castings allow sharper transitions on the tail fins and a cleaner shape of the head than an injection mold permits.
The Mk.46 is an American light anti-submarine torpedo of 324 mm caliber that, from the 1960s, became the standard weapon of anti-submarine aircraft, carrier helicopters and surface ships. It is dropped from low altitude, begins searching for its target on its own after entering the water and works in shallow and deeper waters alike. Thanks to its long service introduction and wide export it turns up on a great many naval aircraft across the decades.
Wash the castings first in warm water with detergent and let them dry thoroughly. Cut the casting block off with a saw as close to the part as possible and sand the remainder down, so that the cylindrical section of the body is kept. The thin tail fins are the riskiest, so work with them carefully and without levering. They are glued with cyanoacrylate, and a primer belongs under the paint. Practice rounds tend to have a markedly different finish from live ones, so think in advance what situation you are telling on the model and let the painting follow from that. A fine wash into the dividing joints and a light wiping of the edges help at the end.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
