A turned metal barrel from the manufacturer Flyhawk in 1:700, representing the German naval gun of 15 cm caliber of the SK C/28 type in the long version. It is not a model of a ship or a kit but a detail accessory meant for replacing the plastic barrels on a warship model in this scale. Metal barrels have a perfectly circular section, a sharply drilled muzzle and no mold parting line, so the result looks considerably more convincing than an injected part.
The 15 cm SK C/28 gun was part of the standard German naval armament of the period of the Second World War. It was used as the secondary artillery of large surface ships and as the main armament of lighter units, both in turrets and in single mounts. The long version of the barrel differs from the shorter one in the length of the projecting part and in the shape of the muzzle, which is clearly apparent in a small scale precisely on turned parts.
Cut the original plastic barrel off as close to the mount as possible and level the surface with a file. Carefully drill a hole into what is left of the part to match the spigot of the metal barrel and glue it in with super glue, or with two-part epoxy. The metal is smooth, so roughen the surface lightly before painting and use a primer, otherwise the coat will hold badly. Check that all the barrels on the model are at the same elevation, as in a small scale any deviation is conspicuous.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a model of the ship. Glue, paints and other parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
