A more extensive add-on set from the maker Tetra Model Works for sharpening a plastic kit of the Japanese Izumo class helicopter ship in 1:700 scale. The set is not a kit and not a finished model; it completes a kit you have already bought. On a ship with such a large continuous deck, metal comes into its own above all on the perimeter railings, the safety nets, ladders, platforms and fine elements of the superstructure. It is precisely the long straight runs of railing that most reveal the quality of the work on a finished model. The exact contents of the package are given by the maker on the packaging. The individual parts are designed for the Tamiya kit.
The Izumo is the lead ship of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) designed as a helicopter carrier with a continuous flight deck along the whole length of the hull. Among other things it serves for antisubmarine duties, for command of a formation and for the support of rescue and humanitarian operations. The ship has an island superstructure to one side, elevators to the flight deck and a sizeable hangar. In later years it went through modifications to the deck connected with the operation of short takeoff and vertical landing aircraft.
Flatness is decisive. Glue long runs of railing in one go, not piece by piece, or the joints will break visibly. It works well to tack the part down at both ends first, check the line against the light, and only then glue the middle. Meter the glue with a wire; excess on the deck is unmissable when seen from above. We recommend painting the decks and letting them dry completely before the metal is fitted; the railing itself can then simply be gone over with a fine brush. Fit the nets and platforms at the edges of the deck at the very end, as they are the most exposed to damage during handling.
The add-on set is supplied unpainted, with no glue and no base kit. Verify before buying that the set matches the kit you own.
