1:700 Neo Equipment parts for IJN Ships (VI)

A set of armament and equipment parts for Japanese ships 1:700, the sixth part of the range

The sixth item from the range of supplementary sets for ship modeling in 1:700 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Pit-Road. The package holds no ship model, but small parts with which the equipment of a kit already built or under construction is completed and refined. The set will be used by modelers for whom the level of detail supplied with a basic model is not enough.

What the set is for

Most ship models in this scale are built either as a full-hull version with the underwater part of the hull, or as a version with the hull cut at the waterline to be set on a sea surface. In both cases the main visual load is carried by the deck and the superstructures, and that is exactly where supplementary parts come into their own most. Before using the set, go through period photographs or drawings of the particular ship and the particular year, because the arrangement of the equipment changed during service. The make-up of this package is stated on the box.

Building and painting tips

It pays to work systematically: first sort out the parts you really will use on the model and leave the rest on the sprue, stored in a box for the next build. A stock of small parts is more valuable in ship modeling than in other fields, because the same equipment recurs on many types of ship. When gluing, work with a small amount of glue and touch the part only with tweezers with fine jaws. If a part flies off, look for it immediately and preferably under side lighting, which will cast a shadow.

Who the set is for

• Builders of Japanese ships in 1:700 scale
• Modelers who build from period photographs and drawings
• Those who build up a stock of small parts for several models
• More experienced builders with tweezer work mastered

The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unpainted; glue and paints are not included in the package.
