Details like these are precisely what gives a scene a storyline: the figures then do not stand there for no reason but have an activity with them.
In 1:35 scale these are miniature parts where accuracy is what counts. Cut with a new scalpel on a smooth mat, ideally against a metal rule, and carry the small pieces with tweezers with fine jaws. With the game board it pays to back the paper with thin card or plastic film — it gains stiffness, does not buckle and, once glued onto a table, looks like an object in its own right and not like printing on the tabletop.
Use thin PVA glue applied in a thin layer for gluing; super glue soaks through paper and leaves dark stains. Place the game board so that the viewer's eye is led to it — best in the foreground of the scene and turned slightly. Then lay out the figures, mugs, a lamp or other small things around it logically, so that the still life looks natural and not arranged.
Go over the white edges after trimming with a thin brush loaded with a darker paint, otherwise the cutout gives itself away. Then calm the surface with a very thinned wash, add light dust with pigment and spray with matte clear coat. With a game used in field conditions, slightly thumbed corners and uneven dirtying look believable.
