This is an aftermarket accessory, not a kit. The sheet is made of thin wooden veneer with the laying of the individual planks pre-printed on it, and it is fitted with a self-adhesive backing. It goes straight onto the plastic flight deck of the kit it is cut for. The set is cut for the Trumpeter 05729 kit, so check before buying that you have exactly that model.
On a model of an aircraft carrier the flight deck is the largest continuous area and it decides the overall impression of the finished display piece. Painted plastic on it always comes across as uniform, because the paint merely follows the engraving. Veneer, by contrast, has a pattern of its own and slight differences of shade between planks, so the area comes alive without any painting at all. The accurately cut outlines also solve the most laborious part of the work, that is, the boundaries of the deck and the cut-outs for the elevators and superstructures.
A clean base is the foundation. Sand the plastic deck lightly first with very fine paper, wash it with lukewarm water and a drop of detergent and let it dry out completely. Traces of grease from the hands are the commonest reason why a corner of the veneer lifts later. Lay the sheet on dry first and find a guiding axis, ideally the longitudinal axis of the deck. Take the covering film off gradually, not all at once, and lay the veneer from the middle out to the edges, so that no air bubbles form under it. Press down with a flat wooden stick, not with a fingernail.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit. The kit itself, glue and paints are not included in the package.
