The kit captures the Adam A500, one of the most interesting attempts at a modern twin-engine general aviation aircraft. The model is of short-run injection-molded plastic from the Amodel brand. The molds are coarser than those of large-series production and the build calls for patience, but the result is a theme you will not find in an ordinary range.
The Adam A500 arose at the American company Adam Aircraft at the turn of the millennium as an all-composite machine with a pressurized cabin. The power plant consists of two piston engines placed on the axis of the fuselage, one tractor in the nose and one pusher at the rear. This arrangement removes the asymmetric thrust on the failure of one engine, that is, the most dangerous situation of a classic twin. The tail surfaces are therefore carried by two booms with a horizontal surface between them. The machine obtained type certification in the middle of the first decade, but the production program ended together with the company in 2008 and only a few pieces built remained.
The pair of tail booms deserves the most attention. Assemble them on a flat surface and check as you go that the tail surfaces are not twisted in relation to the wing. A dry fit without glue is a necessity with this kind of plastic, as is filling and sanding the seams. A composite aircraft has a smooth surface with no rivets, so after sanding give the model a filler primer and polish the surfaces. Spray the base white or light color in thin coats, and put a gloss varnish under the decals. Choose the weathering very sparingly; modern general aviation machines are usually well kept.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
