A self-adhesive masking set from SX-Art for the model of the AH-64A Apache attack helicopter in 1:72 scale. It is neither a kit nor resin parts but a sheet of pre-cut masks that are stuck onto finished surfaces before spraying and taken off once the paint is on. The sharp edge arises directly under the mask, so there is no cleaning up with a brush.
The cockpit of the Apache is stepped and made up of flat panes with pronounced framing, and there is a bulkhead between the front and rear positions as well. That alone means a lot of work when masking by hand. Besides the glazing, however, there are two more things that do not belong to the glazing on a helicopter and yet get masked: the windows and lenses of the sensor units in the nose, which are meant to stay clean and glossy, and the landing gear wheels, where the dark tire should end sharply at the disc. The contents of the sheet are not stated here, so check before you buy which of these items the set covers.
Wash and degrease the glazing. Lift the mask off with tweezers, lay it down dry and press it with a soft tool along the whole length of the edge; on the flat panes of the Apache that is easy, just take care to seat the first mask precisely. Spray the paint in several light coats at a right angle to the edge. A helicopter model is usually weathered afterwards, so take the mask off right after spraying and apply washes only onto finished varnish. It is practical to paint the rotor head and the blades separately and fit them at the very end.
This is an accessory for painting, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Check that it matches your kit before you buy.
