A pre-cut self-adhesive masking set for the de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk trainer in the T.10 and T.20 versions in 1:72 scale from the Czech brand Peewit. It is not a model of an aircraft but a set of accurately cut masks of fine masking tape, which make it easier to spray the frames of the long canopy and further areas cleanly with none of the labor of cutting tape by hand.
The Chipmunk was a low-wing two-seat basic trainer of the late 1940s on which generations of pilots went through their training. The RAF used it under the designation T.10, while export and other military machines carried the designation T.20. It was powered by the de Havilland Gipsy Major inverted inline engine and the crew sat in tandem under a long canopy. The intricate framing of the canopy is a rewarding place where accurate masks save a great deal of time.
Move the masks onto a perfectly clean, degreased surface, seat them exactly and press the edges down carefully with a toothpick or a burnisher, so that no paint can run under them. Spray the inner shade of the framing first, then the outer color once it has dried, and lift the masks off before the paint has cured completely. Any adhesive residue comes away with light dampening.
The set holds self-adhesive masks; it is not a model and not a kit. Paints, glue and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
