An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the Japanese manufacturer FineMolds. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The boxing is focused on a special color finish of the Japanese F-4EJ Kai of 2020, specifically on its blue variant. The yellow variant of the same scheme is offered alongside it. Special finishes arose at the close of the type's service and large areas of rich color are typical of them, which on a model are usually covered by decals supplemented with masked spraying.
The F-4EJ is the Japanese version of the twin-engine, two-seat Phantom II, built in Japan under license, and the designation Kai belongs to the modernized form with newer avionics. The type stayed in Japanese service exceptionally long and the close of its operation was accompanied by special color schemes. Characteristic of the airframe are the large two-seat cockpit, the drooping wingtips and the anhedral of the horizontal tail surfaces.
Finish the cockpit and the landing gear bays before closing the fuselage. Apply the rich blue over an evened-out base and in thin coats, so that the engraved panel lines stay readable. Deal with the transitions between color fields using masking tape or cut templates and spray the edge with the shade of the base first. Before the decals, coat the area with gloss varnish, and once it has dried even the surface out with matte or semi-gloss varnish.
