A turned metal barrel in 1:72 scale from the Polish maker Aber. It is not a kit of a vehicle but a detail accessory meant for swapping the plastic barrel on a model of the German StuG IV assault gun. The metal part is precisely turned, with no parting line and with a genuinely drilled muzzle — a detail that catches the eye first on a small model.
The StuG IV came about in 1943 by combining the hull of the Panzer IV with the superstructure of an assault gun. It carried the StuK 40 gun of 75 mm caliber with a length of 48 calibers, that is the same weapon as the late Sturmgeschütz III and the Panzer IV. The mid version designation refers to the form of the barrel and the muzzle brake, which changed during production — the sets for the individual forms are therefore not interchangeable.
Cut the plastic barrel off at the face of the superstructure, clean the hole out with a drill and glue the metal part in with cyanoacrylate glue. Check the axis of the barrel against the hull — metal does not give, so any inaccuracy cannot be corrected afterwards. Degrease the metal before painting and lay down a base coat for metals. Create the scorching around the muzzle brake with black and gray pigment; light wear on the edges will sharpen the metallic sheen.
This is a detail accessory, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
