Paper masks for building the TBM-3R/3S Avenger in 1:72 scale, cut for Sword kits. They cover the areas that are to stay free of paint.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Avenger was an American carrier aircraft that served from the Second World War onwards and, in the postwar years, was reworked for a number of tasks other than the one it was built for. The designations TBM-3R and TBM-3S belong to precisely these later versions. For the modeler that means varied colors and markings, with which it pays to have crisp edges to the spraying.
A set of paper masks in 1:72 scale, matching Sword kits in shape. Which areas the masks cover and in what order they are applied is described in the enclosed manufacturer's instructions; that is also where you can tell which pieces belong on which side of the model.
The masks are applied before spraying, onto a clean, dry and degreased surface. Lift them with tweezers, lay them on following the outline of the part and press the edges down carefully so that paint cannot creep underneath. Spray in thin coats and preferably from the edge of the mask inwards. Take them off shortly after the paint has dried, while the coat is still flexible; on a fully cured coat the edge lifts less cleanly. Should a small flaw creep under a mask after all, correct it with a brush once the mask is off.
The masks will be welcomed by anyone who does not want to block areas off with tape and cut the outlines by eye. Because they are cut for Sword kits, the outline need not match on another model of the same aircraft; check which kit you are building before you buy. The package contains masks. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
