The Scammell Pioneer was a British heavy tractor with all-wheel drive and an unmistakable articulated axle suspension that gave it excellent going across country. The SV/2S (Recovery Tractor) version was intended for recovering and towing wrecked or bogged-down vehicles and tanks. For that it carried a slewing crane, a heavy winch and outrigger jacks for stability while lifting. The vehicle was one of the mainstays of British and Allied maintenance and recovery services throughout the war.
On a military vehicle it pays to assemble and paint the chassis and the cab interior before the body is closed up. Glue the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic and fill and sand the joints if needed. Apply a primer before painting and lay the paint on with an airbrush in thin coats. The British olive drab scheme benefits from picking out the detail with a wash and from a final weathering with mud and dust pigments, which give a recovery vehicle a convincing working look. Finish the crane, the winch and the cables according to the instructions.
