Underwing racks and drop tanks for the Ki-61 Id Hien in 1:72 scale are a resin set from the manufacturer Brengun. They will add stores for longer-distance flights to a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A supplementary resin set, not an aircraft kit. It contains underwing racks and drop fuel tanks for a model of the Japanese army fighter Ki-61 Hien in the Id version in 1:72 scale. The castings have a smooth surface with no parting seam and thin rack arms, which are precisely the features an injection mold manages only with compromises. A model with stores comes across differently from a machine in clean configuration and better captures the task it was preparing for.
The Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien was a Japanese army fighter with a liquid-cooled V engine, which gave it an unusually slender nose. Drop fuel tanks were hung under the wing where range had to be extended, whether on a transfer between bases or on escort duties over water. Once empty or before combat the tanks were dropped, so that the aircraft did not lose its agility. In period photographs they are a frequent feature that is commonly left out on models.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the area wet with your airways protected. Glue with cyanoacrylate, and work carefully on the thin rack arms; resin is brittle in a small cross-section. Use a primer before painting. The tanks were often colored differently from the aircraft, sometimes staying in bare metal or in a simple finish, which is a rewarding color contrast on an otherwise uniform model.
This is a supplementary set, not a complete kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
