An injection-molded plastic model of the Soviet experimental light aircraft NIAI-1 Fanera-2 in 1:72 scale from Mikromir. It is a short-run kit with fine surface detail, usually supplemented with a photo-etched fret and a decal sheet. Because of the nature of short-run tooling, the build suits more experienced modelers.
The NIAI-1 Fanera-2 (Plywood-2 in translation) was a Soviet light touring aircraft of the mid-1930s whose structure was built mostly from wood and plywood, hence the name. It was powered by a Shvetsov M-11 radial engine of about 100 hp and carried several people including the pilot. It was an interesting design with landing gear that could be retracted, which was unusual on light machines at the time. Only a small number were built.
Glue the parts of the short-run tooling with modeling cement for plastic, and it is best to clean up the mating surfaces before gluing. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply a base coat of primer before painting and spray thin coats with an airbrush; on a wooden structure it pays to suggest the texture of the covering with gentle shading and a clear coat. The smaller number of locating pins calls for careful fitting of the parts.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
