A basic mask set for a model of the two-seat combat-capable trainer version of the heavy Su-27 fighter in 1:72 scale. The package holds a carrier sheet with pre-cut self-adhesive shapes tailored to one specific kit, the Zvezda 7294. It is not a kit or a part of a model, but an aid for the painting stage. The BASIC level denotes the scope of the set: it is the smallest variant of the range, with levels holding more templates above it.
The two-seat version has a considerably longer glazed section than the single-seater, with a dividing frame between the cockpits. In 1:72 scale the whole canopy is only a few centimeters long, yet there are many frames on it and they are very thin. Cut film does here what a hand with a brush practically cannot: it keeps the line the same width from the nose to the rear arch and leaves the clear part under the mask clean.
Try the front and rear sections of the canopy dry beforehand and note which offcut belongs where; the parts are similar in shape and easily swapped. The surface must be degreased. Press the film down with a toothpick all the way around, with particular care at the dividing frame. Apply the paint in several thin coats. Take the masks off shortly after drying, and rather one at a time, so that you keep control over what is happening at the edge.
The package holds only the masking templates. The kit and the paints are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
