A sheet of decals in 1:72 scale intended for models of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning in the F and G versions. It is not a kit and not additional parts but printed markings with which a finished model is set apart from the schemes supplied in the box. The particular schemes and machines on the sheet are given on the packaging and in the enclosed placement instructions.
The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was an American twin-engine fighter aircraft with the unusual design of two tail booms and a central nacelle holding the cockpit and the armament. The F and G versions belong to the early production series and differ from the later P-38J and L among other things in the arrangement of the radiators and the shape of the engine cowlings, so the markings and the color schemes have to be assigned precisely to them. The early Lightnings were deployed in several areas and carried different shades as well as ways of marking, which makes a sheet of this kind an interesting alternative to the contents of the box.
Prepare the model by sealing the finished painting with a gloss clear coat. In 1:72 scale the decals are smaller and more fragile, so cut them out close around the motif and transfer them with tweezers with flat jaws or with a moistened brush. Dip the decal in water only briefly and let it come loose on the paper, otherwise it will slide off the backing before you manage to place it. To make it settle onto the twin booms and the cylindrical nacelles use a softener, which softens the film and draws it into the engraving. Once it has dried, rinse the remains of the adhesive off with lukewarm water and seal the surface with a matte clear coat.
The package contains decals only. The kit, paints and clear coats are not included, unless stated otherwise.
