A decal sheet from the manufacturer Exito Decals devoted to the Supermarine Spitfire Mk. XIVe fighters in 1:72 scale. This is not a kit — the sheet is an add-on to a model and offers an alternative to the kit decals for one of the most powerful versions of the famous British fighter.
The Spitfire Mk. XIV represented a fundamental leap in the development of the type — instead of the Merlin it received the massive Rolls-Royce Griffon engine turning a five-blade propeller, which called for a longer nose and a larger fin. The XIVe form carried armament combining cannons and heavy machine guns in the e-type wing. Late in the war the Fourteens were used among other things to chase flying bombs and in operations over northwest Europe.
The base under the decals has to be gloss and cured, otherwise silvering threatens. Let the decal soak briefly in lukewarm water, settle it in place and press the excess water out. Work it into the engraved lines with a softener. Once thoroughly dry, clear coat the model — a matte or semi-gloss coat evens out the surface and protects the decals during further weathering.
