The set replaces the inside of the cockpit of a model with cast parts complemented by color three-dimensional decals carrying the artwork of the instruments and the lettering. It is a more extensive accessory rather than a stand-alone model of the aircraft. The set is cut for the Hobby Boss kit in 1:48 scale; a version of the same set for a kit from another maker also exists, so when ordering watch which kit you are building. The exact number of parts and the full contents of the package are given in the enclosed instructions.
The F-111 is a two-seat tactical aircraft with a variable-geometry wing and two engines. The crew sits side by side in a shared compartment, which is crucial when building a model: the cockpit is wide, shallow and clearly visible once opened, so any simplification of the plastic parts shows up very conspicuously in it. The F-111C guise is an export variant combining the fuselage of the tactical version with a longer wing and strengthened landing gear. The reference to the early modification in the name points to the older configuration of the cockpit equipment.
First wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent to free them of mold release agent residue, otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife, never break them off, and level the surfaces on abrasive paper laid on a flat board. Glue with cyanoacrylate, ideally the gel kind, which gives time to seat things. Always try the cockpit dry in half the fuselage first and sand any overhang down before you put paint on the parts. Apply the color elements only onto a painted and smoothed base and follow the instructions, as the three-dimensional layer is thicker than an ordinary decal. Once the fuselage is closed, check the balance of the model so that it does not sit down on its tail.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit of the aircraft. Paints, glue and the model itself are not included in the package.
