About product

Display Base for a 1:72 Model, Fliegerhorst Grove, Denmark (Kits-World)

A large-format printed sheet 450 x 450 mm depicting the airfield surface of the Grove base in Denmark. It is neither a kit nor a decal but a scenic base: a finished model is simply stood on it and at once stands on a surface matching its period and place of service. In a square of 450 x 450 mm, a single-engine machine and even a smaller twin-engine aircraft show to good effect in 1:72 scale, including the clearance around the fuselage needed for photography.

What the motif captures

The base is tied to the airfield at Grove on Danish soil. According to the name it gives the reconnaissance unit 1.(F)/33 with the note that it probably only transited through the base, and further the Danish units that operated here after the war. The reach in time is therefore wider than on bases tied to a single year, and the base can be used both for models from the first half of the 1940s and for postwar Danish hardware.

Wear and the realism of the surface

An operational airfield surface never looks like freshly finished paving. It has uneven shades, darker bands where machines taxi and lighter, less loaded edges. The printed base carries this state of its own, and that is why it pays to adapt the model to it rather than the other way round. When the scene looks well used and the model is polished to perfection, the eye picks up the mismatch at once. Work from the base, therefore: let it set how much dust goes onto the landing gear, how dark the streaks behind the exhausts are and how strong the worn edges look. That will unify the whole far more than any single effect on the model.

Who the base is for

  • Modelers who want to stand a finished model in a setting without building a whole diorama
  • Collectors of Danish and Northern European aviation hardware
  • Photographing models, where a neutral table or a white background distracts
  • Display cases and club shows, where a quick and portable scene is needed

This is a printed scenic base, not a kit. The model, figures and accessories are not part of the delivery.

FAQ

Neither. It is a large-format printed sheet on which a finished model is stood. Nothing is glued or assembled.

The area measures 450 x 450 mm. In 1:72 scale you can comfortably stand a single-engine machine or a smaller twin-engine aircraft on it, including the clearance around the fuselage.

The motif is drawn for 1:72. The range of bases comes out in other scales too, so choose by the scale of your model and not just by the name of the station.

No. It is used exactly as supplied. You fine-tune the look of the scene rather by how much dirt goes on the model itself, so that it matches the wear on the printed surface.
