A universal masking sheet from the SX-Art brand with precisely cut hexagons of a 2 mm side. It is not a kit, nor a mask cut for one particular model, but a stock of geometric shapes that you lay out on the model yourself. Of the sizes offered, the 2 mm one is the finest and is meant for places where the pattern should be dense and small.
The hexagon is the basis of hexagonal so-called digital camouflage, of honeycomb patterns and of imitation netting. It can be used positively, where you stick the cut shape onto a surface and spray over it with a second color, and negatively, where you use the rest of the sheet with the opening and spray only the hexagon itself. A small item allows a dense grid that merges into a shade at a distance and reads as a pattern up close. It also serves well for small graphics, for imitating grilles and perforations, or for breaking camouflage up into individual fields at the edges of surfaces.
A 2 mm side corresponds in reality to approximately 7 cm in 1:35 scale, roughly 10 cm in 1:48 and about 14 cm in 1:72. On vehicles in 1:35 it gives a fine, dense pattern, on aircraft in 1:48 a medium-sized item, and in 1:72 a clearly legible camouflage field. In large scales such as 1:16 or 1:24 it is on the small side and suits details rather than a whole surface.
Small masks are harder to take off, so pull them away with fine-tipped tweezers and as soon as the paint has set. The base has to be perfectly dry and smooth; on a rough surface paint easily blows in under a small shape. Press the edges down with a toothpick and spray thinly, in two passes; with small shapes one heavy layer floods the edges and the pattern loses its sharpness.
Paints, glue and a model are not included in the package.
