A set of self-adhesive painting masks from SX-Art for a model of the two-seat Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21UM trainer fighter in 1:48 scale. The masks follow the broken-up frames of both cockpits precisely and help create sharp edges without laborious brushwork by hand.
The MiG-21UM is the two-seat trainer version of the legendary Soviet supersonic MiG-21 fighter. It served to train pilots all over the world and was used by a number of Eastern Bloc armies, Czechoslovakia among them. It is characterized by the raised rear cockpit for the instructor and by the divided glazed canopy.
Transfer the mask with tweezers onto degreased glass, ideally treated with varnish, press the edges down and spray with an airbrush in thin coats. On a two-seat cockpit with more frames the mask speeds the work up markedly. Peel the mask off once the paint has set but is still fresh, so that the edge stays sharp.
The mask contains neither paint nor a model; it is an accessory to a plastic kit.
