A resin set of road wheels for a model of the American M4 Sherman medium tank in 1:35 scale, made in pattern number two. It is not a kit of the vehicle — they are replacement castings for the wheels from a plastic kit. The manufacturer offers Sherman wheels in a numbered range of patterns, because several forms of disc were used on this type; wheels for the horizontal spring suspension are offered as a separate item.
On the Sherman the running gear dominates the view from the side, and the pattern of the discs is among the details by which a particular machine can be recognized. Vehicles often carried wheels of different forms together, so the choice of pattern is not just a matter of taste but a way to bring a model closer to the real subject. Cast parts also offer a sharper drawing of the rim, the holes and the transition between disc and tire than is usual in injection molded plastic.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap first and let them dry. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, level the mating surfaces on abrasive paper on a flat base, and sand wet and with your airways protected. It is glued with super glue; before fixing anything, try the fit dry, best of all with the track straight away. Paint the tires dark gray with a cast of brown instead of pure black and unify the discs with the shade of the vehicle. Bring out the holes and hollows with a dark wash and suggest wear on the bearing faces with a dark metallic pigment. A final layer of dust or mud to match the ground of the scene settles the running gear and hides any small unevenness left after sanding.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and neither the model of the tank nor the tracks are part of the package. Glue, paints and other accessories are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
