Armory 1:32 CH-34 Choctaw and Westland Wessex, wheels with weighted tires is a resin add-on set of replacement wheels for a helicopter model. It is not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory for a build, not a model. A set of replacement wheels cast in resin for a model of the CH-34 Choctaw helicopter in its army form, or of the British Westland Wessex, in 1:32 scale. The wheels have what is called a weighted tire, that is a shaped flattening in the lower part of the kind produced by the weight of a machine standing on the ground. The exact contents of the set are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
Wheels tend to be a weak point in kits. The mold parting line usually runs exactly across the middle of the tire, so it leaves a seam in the most awkward place, the tread is softened and the tire is perfectly round, as if the machine were levitating. A resin casting is produced differently, so it holds a crisper tread pattern and a cleaner transition between tire and hub. The flattening in the lower part also gives a model on a base the weight the eye subconsciously expects. On a helicopter, which is looked at from close up and from above, it is a detail everyone notices.
The CH-34 Choctaw is an American helicopter with a piston engine housed in the nose, recognizable by its high-set cockpit above the engine section. The British Westland Wessex is derived from it structurally but received turbine power and went through a long career in British service in a range of roles. Both machines kept a similar landing gear, which is why the wheels can be used for both subjects.
First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry completely, to remove any mold release residue; otherwise paint will not hold on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc rather than snapping them. Sand the remainder, and when sanding resin work wet and with respiratory protection, as the dust is fine and does not belong in the lungs. They are bonded with super glue, that is cyanoacrylate; ordinary plastic cement does not soften resin. Degrease the parts before spraying and coat them with a base color. Above all: glue the wheel so that the flattened area lies on the ground, otherwise the whole effect loses its point.
The package contains add-on parts only. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
