StuG III Ausf. G, a return roller from Alkett production of the period November 1943 to March 1944, in 1:35 scale by T-Rex Studio.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory set by T-Rex Studio with return rollers for a model of the StuG III Ausf. G assault gun in 1:35 scale. The set is tied to a particular production period, that is to machines from the Alkett plant from November 1943 to March 1944. In the same range the manufacturer carries rollers matching production at the MIAG plant and further periods too, so the running gear can be matched to the date of a particular real subject.
A return roller carries the upper run of the track between the drive sprocket and the idler wheel. On the StuG III they are clearly visible along the sides of the hull and the way they were made changed during production, because material was being saved and the technology was altered. The StuG III Ausf. G was built by two plants, Alkett and MIAG, and their machines differed in small details. A modeler building a machine with a documented history can therefore tell from the maker and the date which rollers belong on it. It is the kind of detail that takes up little room on a finished model but which those who know will notice at once.
Fit the rollers dry and check that they lie in one line and at the same height, otherwise the upper run of the track will be wavy. Choose glue according to the material of the parts, liquid cement on plastic and cyanoacrylate on resin. You will manage the painting even after gluing, but it is more comfortable to spray the rollers separately and glue them on finished. Let the metal show through on the bearing face and dust the rest with the same pigment as the running gear.
