A resin accessory set from LACI in 1:144 scale for a model of the Boeing 737-200 airliner. It replaces the part of the wing supplied in the kit and makes it possible to build the model with the high-lift devices extended, that is as the aircraft looks on approach to landing. The set is cut for the Airfix kit; a version of the same accessory for another kit is a separate item, so when choosing, check which kit you are building for. It is not a model of an airplane but an accessory to one.
An airliner has a smooth, closed wing in flight and on a model it looks static. On approach, though, the profile opens out, the devices run back and down and the silhouette changes fundamentally - a model in landing configuration on a base or in a diorama looks livelier at once. Injection-molded plastic offers this state only rarely, because the thin edges of the flaps are difficult to make in a mold. A resin casting in 1:144 scale can be made markedly finer, and that is where its main benefit lies.
First wash the parts in warm water with detergent, so that the mold release agent disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the surface by damp sanding with breathing protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, because cement for plastic will not dissolve resin. The dry trial is the key step: the trailing edge of the wing usually has to be thinned and the seat for the part leveled, because otherwise the flaps will not sit at the right angle. It can be painted with ordinary acrylics over a primer.
The set contains resin parts and is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
