A front fork set 1:12 for the Yamaha YZR500 (OW98) of 1988 from Top Studio replaces the plastic telescopic fork of a model with a more finely executed part.

This is not a kit of the motorcycle, but an accessory addressing a single assembly: the front telescopic fork. The set is cut for the factory five-hundred Yamaha YZR500 with the internal designation OW98 of 1988, that is, for a racing machine of the highest class of road racing of its day, in 1:12 scale.
On a model of a motorcycle the fork is one of the few places where bare metal occurs in a large continuous area, and that is why every compromise on it is visible at once. The plastic fork leg from the kit has a visible parting line that has to be sanded and polished, and silver paint never reaches the depth of gloss of a real slider. A replacement fork removes this problem at its source: the surface is smooth around the whole circumference and carries the light as is expected of a sliding surface. At the same time the precise seating into the fork yokes, the alignment of both legs and the position of the brake caliper mounts are addressed, as at the front of a model any departure from alignment is conspicuous from every angle.
Try the fork dry in both yokes at once, not leg by leg, as otherwise the alignment will go out and the front wheel will stand crooked on the finished model. Protect the sliding surfaces from glue and from sanding; a fingerprint and a small scratch are permanently visible on them. Degrease the parts before gluing and make the joints with super glue applied with the tip of a pin. Finish the assembly before you fit the fairing and the front fender, but fit the wheel itself only at the end. Tone the seals and the lower part of the fork leg down with a dark shade, as on a real machine there tends to be a trace of lubricant and dust there.
The set is an accessory to a model, not a kit in its own right. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
