About product

Kawasaki KR250 in 1:12 Scale

An injection-molded plastic kit of the quarter-liter Kawasaki KR250 motorcycle in its KR250A version of 1984, in the black and red color combination, in 1:12 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The KR250 came about at a time when the Japanese marques were carrying engineering solutions proven on the circuits into road quarter-liters. The motorcycle was powered by a two-stroke twin with its cylinders one behind the other, that is in tandem, a solution that appeared on road machines only exceptionally. The KR250A version was the first production form of the model range and carried the combination typical of its day: an angular fairing, a flat seat and bold two-color graphics.

Building: glazing, chrome and a two-color finish

On a motorcycle there are fewer clear parts than on a car, and all the more of them are in view: the windscreen over the fairing and the lenses of the indicators and the instruments. Glue them right at the end and only with an adhesive intended for clear parts; otherwise you risk a matte haze that cannot be removed. Do not sand or varnish the chromed surfaces, only free them of fingerprints. Take the black and red scheme in order from the lighter shade: red first, then mask it once it has cured and spray the black. Press the masking tape down with the edge of a toothpick, so that the paint does not seep under it, and take it off before the paint has hardened completely. Paint the fairing, the tank and the side covers separately and join them only once the decals have been sealed with varnish.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Japanese motorcycles of the 1980s
  • Modelers who want to try a sharp two-color finish
  • Those interested in technically unconventional real subjects
  • Builders who work in a uniform 1:12 scale

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It was powered by a two-stroke twin with its cylinders placed one behind the other, that is in tandem. On road quarter-liters that was a very unusual solution.

Start with the lighter shade, that is the red. Once it has cured, mask it and only then spray the black; the opposite order calls for more coats and the edges are coarser.

The manufacturer issues the KR250 in more than one color combination. They are set apart in the name itself, so compare its exact wording when choosing.
