Wingtip devices for the Airbus A320 in 1:125 scale: a small accessory with a large influence on the silhouette of the finished model. The target kits are the A320 models from Heller.
Responsibility details are not available.
A small set that deals with the end of the wing. Older tooling for airliners tends to have the tip cast short and smooth, while the real machines carry vertically extended surfaces. The difference is inconspicuous only until you put both models side by side. It is exactly this detail that most quickly gives away which period the aircraft you have chosen comes from, and yet it can be exchanged in a single evening. The shape of the wingtip devices is based on the Heller kits.
At the end of the lifting surface the higher pressure from below meets the lower pressure from above and a vortex forms that slows the aircraft. A vertical surface at the tip breaks that vortex up, cuts drag and brings a fuel saving over long stretches. On the A320 family several forms succeeded one another over the years, from low wingtip fences to tall saber shapes, and the individual machines differed by age and carrier as well. Before you reach for the file, compare the shape with a photograph of the particular machine you want to build.
Shorten the wingtip according to the enclosed parts and run the cut square, so that the new surface stands vertical. Level both sides against a common measure, because uneven ends are immediately visible from the front. Paint before gluing: there tends to be a color element of the carrier at the end of the wing, which is only hard to mask on a finished model. Sand the joint lightly once it has dried and polish it.
