CFM56-5B engine nacelles in 1:125 scale for building the Airbus A320: the most widespread powerplant variant of this family of airliners.
Responsibility details are not available.
Replacement powerplant cowlings for builders who are bothered by the simplified shape of the original parts on a finished model. On an airliner the engine, together with the tail surfaces, is the part by which a model is recognized from a distance, and an inaccurate nacelle can spoil otherwise careful work. The set is aimed at exactly this one assembly and leaves the rest of the airframe unchanged. Which model is the basis is written in the name.
The CFM56 line was created in French and American cooperation and became the best-selling jet engine in the history of civil aviation. The subgroup designated 5B was developed directly for airliners of this size and is in service on thousands of machines all over the world. Its mark of recognition is a circular intake and a relatively long cowling, by which it differs from the offering of the rival consortium. For a modeler a practical rule follows from that: before you reach for the engines, check from a photograph what powerplant the aircraft you have chosen actually carried.
Cut the original cowlings off with a fine-toothed saw and level the surface, so that the new nacelle does not sit crooked. Before gluing, compare both sides next to each other and even out any difference in length by sanding. Do the metallic shine of the intake ring only once the base shade has dried, otherwise the pigment is drawn into the surroundings. The small lettering on the cowling stands out only once the surface has been flattened.
