Rye Field Model is a brand known among modelers for exactly this kind of modern American subject in this scale.
The Abrams is an American main battle tank introduced at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s. The M1A1 version received a 120 mm smoothbore gun, and it is this armament that sets the M1A1 family apart from the original release with its 105 mm gun. The abbreviation FEP marks a later upgrade aimed at the instruments and the fire control systems. The combat dozer blade is an attachment fixed to the front of the hull that serves to clear obstacles and to do engineering work without the vehicle losing its main role.
Finish the running gear and the lower hull before you close the hull up. There are plenty of small fittings, optics and grab handles on the turret of a modern tank; fit them only after the base coat, or they will break during handling. Paint the blade separately and fit it last to save yourself masking. The surface of an Abrams is matte and even, so what gives it life is the layering: gentle highlighting of the panels, a darker wash into the panel lines, boot prints on the fenders and dust pigments on the tracks and the lower hull. The blade deserves scraped bare metal on the cutting edge.
