An injection-molded plastic kit of the modern Russian two-seat multi-role fighter Sukhoi Su-30MKK (NATO code Flanker-G) in 1:144 scale from Trumpeter. The model has finely engraved panel lines, a tandem cockpit with two seats, a one-piece canopy and landing gear. External stores with several types of missiles are usually included as well. Even in a small scale it is a striking model of a large and aggressive-looking aircraft.
The Su-30 is a two-seat multi-role fighter derived from the heavy Su-27 fighter. The Su-30MKK version came about as the export configuration for the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) and is adapted for air combat and for attacks on ground targets alike. It stands out for its long range, its heavy armament and its pair of powerful engines. The rear crew member looks after the weapons systems above all, which makes the aircraft a capable strike as well as air platform.
In a small scale, watch the clean fit of the fuselage halves and the leading edges; fill and sand the joints. Mask the canopy before spraying. Glue the parts with thin cement for plastic and clean up the fine armament parts carefully. Lay down a base coat (primer) and spray with an airbrush; a grayish or blue-gray camouflage is typical of the Su-30MKK. A fine panel wash and restrained emphasis will bring out the texture without overwhelming a small model.
