Linden strips 2 x 7 x 1000 mm in a pack of ten are a wide, easily worked material for the first layer of hull planking on wooden ship models.
Responsibility details are not available.
The pack holds ten strips with a section of 2 x 7 mm and a length of one meter. Linden is the most common working wood in ship modeling: it is pale, softer, uniform and has no pronounced grain, so it can be cut, bent, sanded and stained without trouble. The wide seven-millimeter profile covers an area quickly and with few longitudinal seams.
Linden is rewarding: moistened and warmed, it bends into a fairly tight curve, and it does not splinter when cut. That is exactly why it is used for the lower layer of planking — unevenness can be sanded smooth and any gaps filled with a mixture of sanding dust and glue without it showing on the finished model. It is bonded with PVA wood glue, with pressure from clothes pins, rubber bands or pins pushed into the frames. Where the width does not fit into the narrowing of the hull, bevel the strip lengthwise with a scalpel. Soft wood takes a dent easily, so pad the clamps. If the linden is to stay visible, reckon on staining or varnish — untreated, the surface is very pale.
For builders of wooden ship models who are planking a hull or need a reliable working material for surfaces, and for modelers who have run out of strips from a kit. It is a wood you never have too little of.
The strips are supplied in their natural state, unworked and without any surface finish. Glue, abrasives and stain are not included in the package.
