A sizable injection-molded plastic kit of the American M1A1 AIM Abrams main battle tank from the manufacturer Trumpeter in the giant 1:16 scale. It is a large and demanding project with a high parts count, individually assembled track links, photo-etched parts, elaborate running gear and clear parts (periscopes, optics). In this scale every detail shows to advantage - the two-part gun barrel, the opening hatches, the M2HB and M240 machine guns, the tools and the stowage baskets on the turret and the hull. The model is intended for a static build; it is not a motorized (RC) version.
The M1 Abrams is an American main battle tank with a gas turbine, composite armor and a stabilized 120 mm gun. The M1A1 AIM version is the result of an upgrade and overhaul program (Abrams Integrated Management), which brings older M1A1 vehicles up to the current standard with improved electronics and equipment. The Abrams is among the most widespread Western tanks and serves with other users besides the US Army.
On a model this large it pays to assemble and paint the running gear - the road wheels and the individual track links - before you close it up and fit the side armor panels. Use liquid modeling cement on the plastic, spray the surface with a primer and apply the shades with an airbrush. The large area of the hull and the turret is ideal for weathering: dark washes will bring out the engraved detail and the rivets, and pigments will create convincing dust and mud effects on the running gear and the side panels.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
