Bf 109 G wheels with a screwed disc 1:35 (Miryoku)

This is an accessory set, not a kit of the aircraft. The contents are resin main landing gear wheels with which you replace the plastic parts of the base model of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 G in 1:35 scale. On aircraft models the landing gear wheels are among the most closely watched details, because they are at the eye level of the viewer and the whole build stands on them.

What the set solves

The casting is made by one technology for the whole part, so no mold parting line arises either on the tire or on the disc, which otherwise has to be laboriously sanded away. The name specifies both the disc type and the tire size, so you can choose the wheel according to the machine you are building - the later versions of the Bf 109 were given a wider main wheel than the early production runs, and the way the disc was attached to the hub differed too.

Before you buy the set: check against a photograph or a profile of the particular aircraft what type of wheel your machine carried. The dimensions in the name relate to the real tire, not to the model.

Tips for working with resin

First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water - this removes the mold release residue, on which paint does not hold. Do not snap the casting blocks off but cut them with a modeling saw or a knife and level the surface with a file. When sanding resin, work wet and protect your airways; the dust is fine. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); plastic cement has no effect on resin. A light primer before painting is worthwhile, as paint is otherwise easily flaked off smooth resin.
