A nameplate for a model of the Japanese battlecruiser Kongo in her 1914 state in 1:700 scale by the manufacturer Kajika. It is not a model of the ship but an accessory for displaying her.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is not a kit of the ship but a nameplate, that is a plate with the name of the ship, with which the presentation of a finished model in a display case or at a show is rounded out. Kajika issues it as part of a family of accessories for its model of the battlecruiser Kongo in her 1914 state, for which it also offers photo-etched parts, a wooden deck, a mask set and a display base.
Kongo was the lead ship of the Japanese class of fast battlecruisers of the same name. She alone of them was built in Great Britain, while the sister units were built in Japan. The main armament consisted of eight guns of 356 mm in four twin turrets, complemented by a battery of medium guns in casemates. The 1914 state captures the ship shortly after completion, with her original silhouette before the later reconstructions, which changed her appearance fundamentally.
The nameplate is fitted right at the very end, after the model has been finished and dusted off. If you are going to treat its surface in any way, do it away from the model, so that neither dust nor overspray reaches the finished ship. Before fixing it permanently, try the position dry and check whether the plate does not get in the way of the view of the bow or of the rigging. The caption deserves the same care as the model itself, because it is the first thing a viewer in a display case reads.
