The set Eduard 1:200 Royal Navy signal flags STEEL brings color-printed steel photo-etched parts with the flags of the Royal Navy for ship models.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory for builders of ship models, not a kit. The set is made with the STEEL technology, that is from thin stainless steel sheet with a color print. Stainless steel is springy and holds its shape after bending, so a curved flag can be formed from a flat part, which on a model looks like cloth in the wind. Painting becomes unnecessary, as the motif is printed from the factory. Behind the product stands the Czech maker Eduard.
The Royal Navy used a set of signal flags of its own for passing orders and messages between ships. The flags were hoisted on masts and yards, where they could be read from the deck of another vessel. On a model it is a small but conspicuous element: a colorful row of flags will complete otherwise empty rigging and help convey the scale of the whole ship.
Separate the parts with a scalpel against a firm surface, sand the edge and first bend the flag with tweezers into a gentle wave. It is glued with a small drop of super glue or with a dispersion glue meant for photo-etched parts. A halyard is replaced by drawn monofilament or a thin thread colored in advance, so that the print does not have to be protected afterwards. Stronger thinners and aggressive cleaners damage the print, so apply any matte coat only as a light mist from a distance.
The set is an accessory for a ship model. Glue, threads and the kit itself are not included in the package.
