This is an accessory for a model, not a kit of the ship. The set of photo-etched parts from the Czech manufacturer Eduard is intended for a model of the American battleship USS Arizona in 1:200. The designation part I means that it is the first part of the set; a second part follows, covering further areas of the ship. Please check the exact make-up of the package, that is the number of frets and of individual parts, on the packaging before buying.
On large ship models photo-etched accessories replace those elements that simply cannot be made from plastic in the corresponding thickness: railings, ladders, gratings, platforms, fine bracing and small deck equipment. It is precisely on these that the difference between a model out of the box and a model taken to the end is most visible on ships. In 1:200 it is a large model, so even the photo-etched parts are relatively easy to handle compared with smaller scales.
Work over a mat with raised edges, because a photo-etched part that falls is very hard to find. Cut the parts from the fret with a sharp scalpel against a hard base, never break them out. Make the bends in a photo-etch bender or at least between two razor blades, so that the edge is straight. Glue with cyanoacrylate applied with the tip of a wire; on larger assemblies a glue with a longer setting time helps, as it gives time to align things. Degrease the metal before painting and use a good primer, otherwise the paint will flake off. Fit the railings and the finest parts right at the end, after the hull and the superstructures have been painted.
It is not a kit of the ship but a set of accessories for a model. Before buying, check that it matches your kit in 1:200. Glue, paints and tools are not included in the package.
