Rolls-Royce RB211-22 engines of the early version with the reverser open in 1:144 scale make up an add-on set for a model of the wide-body three-engine aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
The add-on replaces the engine nacelles on a finished kit and shows them with the thrust reverser in the open position. The model of the aircraft itself is not included. The set belongs to a group the brand built around the RB211 engines of early production: besides this variant with the reverser open it also offers nacelles in the closed form, so the builder can choose according to the situation he wants to capture on the model.
The Rolls-Royce RB211 was the first three-shaft turbofan engine of British manufacture and its development was among the most demanding projects of its kind. The RB211-22 version powered the wide-body three-engine Lockheed L-1011 TriStar, for which the engine was designed. The early and the later version differ in the details of the nacelle, which matters when building a particular aircraft: the model gets the right shape only if you choose the version that matches the real machine.
The seating of the nacelle on the pylon is the key point. Dry-fit the joint and watch the angle when looking from the front and from above, because an engine seated crooked shows at first glance and once the super glue has set nothing can be done about it. It helps to support the nacelle while it dries and to check it from a distance. Fill any gap between the pylon and the nacelle with putty, not with a drop of glue. Spray the inner surfaces uncovered by the reverser before you close the assembly.
