NATO Individual Weapon Set A in 1:35 scale from Magic Factory

An add-on set from the brand Magic Factory containing the personal weapons of soldiers of the NATO armies in 1:35 scale. It is not a vehicle kit or a figure kit - it is material with which an already built model, figure or vehicle interior is equipped further. The manufacturer lists the set in two versions marked by letters; this is version A.

What it does on the model

The weapons supplied together with figures tend to be simplified, because they have to come out of the same mold as the figure. Separately produced parts have sharper edges, thinner sections and better-sounding proportions. A modeler uses them in three situations: equipping figures further, filling the interiors and stowage spaces of vehicles where the weapons have their place, and building a still life in a diorama where the kit is laid aside.

Building and painting tips

Cut the thin parts from the sprue gates from the side with a sharp knife, not with nippers from above - otherwise you risk cracking. Try everything dry, especially with figures, where the grip of the hands has to fit. Paint them separately while the part is easily reachable in your hand, and seat them only at the end. A dark base, matte shades without shine and a gentle emphasis of the edges with a shade one tone lighter prove their worth; finally a thin wash, which brings out the shape. Glossy surfaces do not look good on weapons, so a matte varnish at the end is in order.
