Mazda Savanna RX-7 (FC3S) in 1:24 scale – a plastic kit of the second generation of the Japanese coupe with a rotary engine.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit captures the Mazda RX-7 of the second generation, that is the car with the internal body code FC3S. On the home Japanese market it was sold under the name Savanna RX-7, whereas for export it went only as the RX-7. The 1:24 scale is the most widespread one with road cars, so the built model will fit in well among the other Japanese coupes in a cabinet.
The second generation was produced between 1985 and 1991. The drive was provided by the 13B rotary engine, whose small dimensions allowed the unit to be seated deep behind the front axle. The result was a balanced distribution of weight and behavior typical of an honest rear-wheel-drive car. The characteristic marks are the pop-up headlights and the smooth, rounded body, over which the critics of the time could not resist a comparison with European coupes of the same time. The stronger executions received turbocharging and the rotary engine thus offered power comparable to substantially larger piston units.
It pays off to rid the body of the mold seams and sand it down first; only then does a filler primer come in turn. The glossy surface of Japanese coupes stands out when the shade is applied in thin layers and enough time to dry is kept between them. The pop-up headlights and the trim strips around the side windows deserve a steady hand and a quality masking tape. It is practical to finish the interior and the chassis before the body finally settles.
The set comes as an unassembled model without a surface finish; the tools and the shades the modeler obtains separately.
