This is not a kit of a car but a decal set with which you add to a model a detail not normally found in the box. The sheet contains license plates used in South Korea in the period from 1973 to 1996 in 1:24 scale. A plate is exactly the kind of small thing on a finished model that everyone notices: without it the car comes across as an exhibition piece, with it as a car that went somewhere. DEF Model is a South Korean maker of modeling accessories and handles its home subjects with corresponding care.

What the set is for

The set is intended for models of passenger cars in 1:24 scale that you want to place in a particular period and country. It comes into its own on Korean cars and on period cars of other makes operated in Korea, in dioramas with a street scene and in collector builds where every detail is to be traceable. The plates are applied to the factory holders on the body or to the area where the car had them.

Application tips

Decals belong on a smooth glossy base. Under matte paint, air is trapped beneath the film and a matte rim forms around the plate. The procedure: spray the spot with gloss varnish, cut the decal out as close as you can, soak it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it rest until it releases from the backing paper. Move it into place, soak the excess water up with a paper tissue and press it down. On a relief surface decal softener helps. Once it has dried completely, spray the whole part with varnish in the degree of gloss you want, so that the edge of the film disappears.
