A plastic kit of the American convertible of the 1964 model year in the classic 1:25 scale. The number 1964 in the name denotes the model year of the car, not the scale. A convertible is a rewarding variant for modelers: it has an open interior, so the dashboard, the upholstery and the seats are all visible, and the build therefore offers more room for detail than a closed body.
The Oldsmobile F-85 was the mid-size model of the Oldsmobile brand, and Cutlass within it denoted the better-equipped variant. The 1964 model year falls within the generation of American mid-size cars built on a shared corporate platform, which in the 1960s became the basis for a whole wave of powerful versions. In its bodywork it is a typical American car of the middle of the 1960s, with straight lines, a bold front grille and chrome trim strips.
With a convertible the build is planned from the back: the interior has to be finished and painted before it is seated in the body, because after that you will not get to it. The upholstery looks best with matte paint and fine emphasis on the stitching, and the dashboard is brought to life by carefully applied instrument decals. Sand the body and spray it with a filler primer, and apply the gloss paint in thin coats. The chrome trim strips can be picked out with a fine brush or with bare-metal foil. Leave the wheels and the tires until the end, so the finish is not damaged while handling. Glue with thin plastic cement applied by capillary action.
