An injection-molded plastic model of the American fire appliance American LaFrance Eagle, a fire pumper, that is an engine with its own pump, in 1:25 scale from Trumpeter. It is an exceptionally extensive and detailed kit: the parts are molded in white plastic, separate sprues carry the chrome-plated and clear parts, and a photo-etched sheet with non-slip surfaces is included. The kit takes in a well-worked interior of the roomy crew cab and a detailed water pump, pressure tanks and chassis.
American LaFrance was one of the oldest and best-known American makers of fire-fighting equipment. The Eagle type represents a modern heavy pumper with a powerful pump that draws water from a hydrant or a tank and drives it into the hoses under pressure. The vehicle carries a complete set of fire-fighting equipment, hoses, ladders and fittings, and serves fire departments in the USA for fighting building fires.
Use liquid cement on the joints of the plastic parts, glue the chrome-plated parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) and do not spray clear coat over them needlessly. The bodywork of fire engines is usually deep red with a high gloss, so a good base, smoothly applied paint and a final gloss coat pay off, and the decals sit well on it. Bring the chrome, the gauges and the beacons to life and pick out the panel gaps with a subtle dark wash.
